This will be achieved by developing Java and UML modelling technologies to provide: <br/>1) Architectural Patterns - using predefined libraries and annotation technology to extend Java with new directives for exploiting streaming I/O and parallelism on high performance platforms; <br/>2) Virtual Machine Extensions - using class libraries to extend the JVM for scalable platforms; <br/>3) Java Acceleration - performance optimisation is achieved using Java JIT to Hardware (FPGA), especially to enable real-time processing of fast streaming data; <br/>4) Performance Guarantees - will be provided for common application real-time requirements; and <br/>5) Modelling - of persistence and real-time within UML / MARTE to enable effective development, code generation and capture of real-time system properties.<br/><br/>The project will use financial and web streaming case studies from industrial partners to provide industrial data and data volumes, and to evaluate the developed technologies.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 318763<br/> <b>Status</b>: Execution<br/> <br/> <b>Total Image guidance during treatment ensures a reliable targeting of the dose to the tumour. This has created the possibility to irradiate the tumour with a high dose with minimal exposure of surrounding tissue. Thus an improvement in tumour control is no longer invariably associated with an increase in radiation-induced toxicity.<br/>Now, the capacity exists to create treatment plans that are tailored to the specific characteristics of the patient. Thus, the success of radiotherapy depends on proper personalized therapy planning and outcome prediction. However, an individualized representational model that informs on radiation therapy planning and outcome prediction is still lacking.<br/>There are several modelling approaches available that have the potential to fill this gap, among them empirical, but established radiobiological models and more sophisticated multi-scale models.<br/>DR THERAPATs aim is to create the Digital Radiation Therapy Patient, integrating the available knowledge on tumour imaging, image analysis and interpretation, radiobiological models and radiation therapy planning into a reusable, multi-scale digital representation. DR THERAPAT will enable 1) Broad access to dose painting 2) Individualized planning resulting in more effective and safer treatment 3) Accurate prediction of tumour Control Probability and Normal Tissue Complication Probability, 4) improve outcome, 5) provide a platform demonstrating the integration of modelling into the clinical workflow, and 6) provide a platform for the validation of the models.<br/>A demonstrator of this platform will be made for prostate cancer. With a second demonstrator for cervical cancer, we will show that the model can be translated to other forms of cancer. DR THERAPAT will adapt and integrate today's available tools into a digital representation of the patients health status and clinical workflow.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> Within this context, research on diagnostic imaging has recently gone hand in hand with the notion that the combination of various modalities is the key step towards improved diagnostic accuracy.<br/><br/>Ultrasound (US) is promising for point-of-care imaging because, of its real-time display, high temporal and spatial resolution, low cost and safe of use. However, it falls short in terms of functional imaging. On the other hand optical techniques provide high contrast by the pronounced optical absorption variations in tissue and functional imaging when probing spectral features, but optical scattering limits the resolution of purely optical methods. Photoacoustic imaging (PA) shows optical absorption at ultrasound resolution via thermo-elastically generated ultrasound.<br/><br/>The objective of FULLPHASE is the transition of PA imaging from a lab-based technique to a low-cost portable multi wavelength combined PA and US system. In order to reach that goal, the FULLPHASE partners offer specific expertise over complementary backgrounds in diode laser technology, laser beam shaping, ultrasound imaging technology, and system integration. The impact of the FULLPHASE system will be shown in oncology, rheumatology and cardio vascular disease.<br/><br/>The ultrasound technology market is currently dominated by few large companies mainly located in the US, Europe and Asia. The FULLPHASE low cost portable PA and US medical system for early disease detection that will be commercialised by ESAOTE Europe will give the involved research institutes and the industrial partner's access to new know-how and new markets. It will stimulate the implementation of a new imaging concept that will create a change in health care delivery.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div This NaNoC design platform intends to master the design complexity of advanced microelectronic systems by enabling strict component oriented architectural design. A compositional approach to NoC design in future multi-core chips is out of the reach of current design methods and tools due to new design constraints. Requirements for co-design with high-level platform management frameworks facilitates a need for enhanced dynamism and flexibility in NoC composition (e.g., virtualization, power management, thermal management, application management). On the other hand, a higher degree of uncertainty originating from nanoscale integrated circuit fabrication technologies raises the need to build reliable systems out of unreliable components.The NaNoC design platform provides design methods and prototype tools to cope with both challenges and to make NoCs a mainstream interconnect backbone for effective system integration. The platform enables NoC component assembly at each layer of the design hierarchy. Therefore, design for manufacturability techniques and tools are developed to preserve yield in the presence of manufacturing defects and circuit performance/power variability.Above all, the NaNoC design platform fosters tight cooperation between system research, circuit design and process development by means of a silicon-aware decision making at each layer of the design hierarchy. In this direction, NaNoC not only provides a cross-layer approach to tackle composability challenges (e.g., physical design techniques for enhanced reliability combined with architecture-level techniques for fault containment), but also defines an exchange format for interoperability between design tools for cross-layer optimization. Interoperability between developed NoC design methods/prototype tools and mainstream design toolflows will also be pursued. <p> <a href="JavaScript:toggleTech();">Read the original technical description</a> </p> <div class="tech" style="display: none;"> <h3>Objective</h3> <p>The NaNoC project aims at developing an innovative design platform for future Network-on-Chip (NoC) based multi-core systems. Interoperability between developed NoC design methods/prototype tools and mainstream design toolflows will also be pursued.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 248972<br/> <b>Status</b>: Execution<br/> <br/> <b>Total cost</b>: EUR 4 117 601<br/> <b>EU contribution</b>: EUR 2 925 000<br/> </div> <div class="box-right"> <p> <b>Programme acronym: </b> <br/> <a href="/fetch?CALLER=PROGLINK_NEWS_EN&QF_PGA=FP7-ICT">FP7-ICT</a> </p> <p> <b>Subprogramme area: </b> <br/>ICT-2009.3.2</p> <p> <b>Contract type: </b> <br/>Collaborative project (generic)</p> </div> </div> <div class="Links"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Links</span> </div> <div class="content"> <ul> <li> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.nanoc-project.eu/">NaNoC project</a> </li> </ul> </div> </div> <div class="Multimedia" id="Multimedia"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Multimedia</span> </div> <div class="content"> <ul> <li> <a target="_blank" href="http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/nanoelectronics/pub-media-nanoc_en.html">NaNoC video</a> </li> </ul> </div> </div> <div class="Publications" id="Publications"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Publications</span> (23) </div> <div class="content"> <ul> <li> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/publishing/readmore/2012_nanoc_summerschool_cara_externa_highq.pdf">NaNoC summer school (1)</a> </li> <li> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/publishing/readmore/2012_nanoc_summerschool_cara_interna_highq.pdf">NaNoC Summer school (2)</a> </li> <li> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_DeliverableD43130710.pdf">Router and link variability maps</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D33.pdf">Design space exploration tool chain</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/reports/001_Publishablesummary1Year1.pdf"/> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D34singlecombinedfileFinal.pdf">Specification of a Communication Exchange Format (CEF)</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_deliverable11Final.pdf">A report on Unicast Topology-Agnostic Routing Algorithm</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D12.pdf">Topology-Agnostic Coherency Protocol</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D13.pdf">Variability-Aware Network Design</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D22.pdf">A low overhead congestion management mechanism able to reduce Head-of-line blocking</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D35.pdf">Methodologies for the design of physical-level-aware NoC topologies</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D14.pdf">Definition of a system-level testing and diagnosis strategy for NoC architectures</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_deliverable23.pdf">A report on a service differentiation technique with packet formats to support quality of service</a> </li> <li class="optional"> <a target="_blank" href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/apps/projects/logos/2/248972/080/deliverables/001_D21changessection26.pdf">Design methods for distributed error detection and reconfiguration - These are incredibly important goals for which there are few analytical chemistry methods that are available and useful. <br/><br/>The immediate goal therefore includes development of three chemical methodologies at the cutting edge of analytical chemistry: <br/>1) the development of arrays of nanometer electrodes that can be used to spatially measure the release of easily oxidized substances across the cell surface; <br/>2) to improve the combination of MALDI and cluster SIMS ion sources on an orthogonal QStar instrument to enable protein and glycoprotein analysis at the single whole cell level, lipid domain analysis at the subcellular level, and importantly, depth profiling; and <br/>3) the application of information discovered at single cells and of the methods developed in goals 1 and 2 to an in vitro model of cell-to-cell communication and regeneration. <br/><br/>I intend to build on my expertise in both electrochemistry and SIMS imaging to develop these approaches. The work described here constitutes two new directions of research in my group as well as new analytical chemistry, and, if successful, will lead to researchers being able to gather incredibly important new data about cell-to-cell communication and cell differentiation and reprogramming as well as to a better understanding the role of lipids in exocytosis and endocytosis.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 267833<br/> <b>Status</b>: Execution<br/> <br/> <b>Total cost</b>: EUR 2 491 881<br/> <b>EU contribution</b>: EUR 2 491 881<br/> </div> <div class="box-right"> <p> <b>Programme acronym: </b> <br/> <a href="/fetch?CALLER=PROGLINK_NEWS_EN&QF_PGA=FP7-IDEAS-ERC">FP7-IDEAS-ERC</a> </p> <p> <b>Subprogramme area: </b> <br/>ERC-AG-PE4,ERC</p> <p> <b>Contract type: </b> <br/>ERC Advanced Grant</p> </div> </div> <div class="openaire" id="openaire"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Publications</span> </div> <div class="content" id="oa_widget"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.openaire.eu/index.php?option=com_openaire&view=widget&layout=bootstrap&format=raw&ga=267833"/> </div> <div class="projinvest"> <h2>Principal Investigator</h2> <div class="main">Prof. Andrew Ewing<br/>Tel: +46 31 7869113<br/>Fax: +46 31 7721394<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0061006e006400720065007700650040006300680061006c006d006500720073002e00730065">Contact</a> <br/> </div> </div> <div class="projcoord" id="coord"> <h2>Host Institution</h2> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">CHALMERS TEKNISKA HOEGSKOLA AB</div> <div class="country">SVERIGE <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('coord');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Mrs. Anna Molander<br/>-<br/>Tel: +46 31 7723040<br/>Fax: +46 31 7723858<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0061006e006e0061002e006d006f006c0061006e0064006500720040006300680061006c006d006500720073002e00730065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.chalmers.se" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> <div class="participants"> <h2>Beneficiaries</h2> <div class="participant" id="part1"> <div class="main"> <div class="name">GOETEBORGS UNIVERSITET</div> <div class="country">SVERIGE <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('part1');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Ludde EDGREN (Dr)<br/>Vasaparken, 100, GOETEBORG, SVERIGE<br/>Tel: +46-317862783<br/>Fax: +46-317864355<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=006c0075006400640065002e00650064006700720065006e004000670075002e00730065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.gu.se" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> <div class="participant" id="part2"> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">CHALMERS TEKNISKA HOEGSKOLA AB</div> <div class="country">SVERIGE <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('part2');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Mrs. Anna Molander<br/>-<br/>Tel: +46 31 7723040<br/>Fax: +46 31 7723858<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0061006e006e0061002e006d006f006c0061006e0064006500720040006300680061006c006d006500720073002e00730065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.chalmers.se" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> </div> <div id="toknowmore"> <h2>To know more</h2> <div class="content"> <a href="http://erc.europa.eu/" target="_blank">http://erc.europa.eu/</a> </div> </div> <div id="subjects"> <h2>Subjects</h2>SCI</div> <div id="recinfo"> <b>Record number</b>: 97390 / <b>Last updated on (QVD)</b>: 2012-12-17</div> <script type="text/JavaScript">SeeAlsoObj = {PGA: 'FP7-IDEAS-ERC',SIC: 'SCI',CCY: 'SE',oa_grant: '267833'};</script> </div>

Drosophila should provide a simple and genetically amenable alternative, but both its autonomic nervous system and the signalling significance of its digestive tract have remained largely unexplored. My research programme will characterize the signals and neurons mediating the interaction between the nervous and digestive systems, and will establish their significance both in the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis and in response to nutritional challenges.<br/>To achieve these goals, we will capitalize on a multi-disciplinary approach that combines the genetic manipulation of defined neuronal lineages, a cell-biological approach to the study of enterocyte metabolism, and our recently developed physiological and behavioural readouts. Our work will provide new insights into the signals and mechanisms modulating internal metabolism and food intake: processes which, when deregulated, contribute to increasingly prevalent conditions such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome and obesity. Our recent finding of conserved mechanisms of autonomic control in the fruit fly makes us confident that the signals we identify will be relevant to mammalian systems.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 310411<br/> <b>Status</b>: Accepted<br/> <br/> <b>Total cost</b>: EUR 1 499 740<br/> <b>EU contribution</b>: EUR 1 499 740<br/> </div> <div class="box-right"> <p> <b>Programme acronym: </b> <br/> <a href="/fetch?CALLER=PROGLINK_NEWS_EN&QF_PGA=FP7-IDEAS-ERC">FP7-IDEAS-ERC</a> </p> <p> <b>Subprogramme area: </b> <br/>ERC-SG-LS4</p> <p> <b>Contract type: </b> <br/>ERC Starting Grant</p> </div> </div> <div class="openaire" id="openaire"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Publications</span> </div> <div class="content" id="oa_widget"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.openaire.eu/index.php?option=com_openaire&view=widget&layout=bootstrap&format=raw&ga=310411"/> </div> <div class="projinvest"> <h2>Principal Investigator</h2> <div class="main">Dr. Irene Miguel-Aliaga<br/>Tel: +44 208 383 3907<br/>Fax: +44 208 383 8577<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0069002e006d0069006700750065006c002d0061006c00690061006700610040006300730063002e006d00720063002e00610063002e0075006b">Contact</a> <br/> </div> </div> <div class="projcoord" id="coord"> <h2>Host Institution</h2> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICINE</div> <div class="country">UNITED KINGDOM <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('coord');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Ms. Tatjana Palalic<br/>Exhibition Road, South Kensington Campus, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM<br/>Tel: +44 20 7594 6265<br/>Fax: +44 20 75943868<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0074002e00700061006c0061006c0069006300400069006d00700065007200690061006c002e00610063002e0075006b">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.imperial.ac.uk" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> <div class="participants"> <h2>Beneficiaries</h2> <div class="participant" id="partNaN"> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICINE</div> <div class="country">UNITED KINGDOM <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('partNaN');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Ms. Tatjana Palalic<br/>Exhibition Road, South Kensington Campus, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM<br/>Tel: +44 20 7594 6265<br/>Fax: +44 20 75943868<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0074002e00700061006c0061006c0069006300400069006d00700065007200690061006c002e00610063002e0075006b">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.imperial.ac.uk" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> </div> <div id="toknowmore"> <h2>To know more</h2> <div class="content"> <a href="http://erc.europa.eu/" target="_blank">http://erc.europa.eu/</a> </div> </div> <div id="subjects"> <h2>Subjects</h2>BIO</div> <div id="recinfo"> <b>Record number</b>: 106547 / <b>Last updated on (QVD)</b>: 2012-12-17</div> <script type="text/JavaScript">SeeAlsoObj = {PGA: 'FP7-IDEAS-ERC',SIC: 'BIO',CCY: 'UK',oa_grant: '310411'};</script> </div>

Nowadays, it has reached great achievement with many applications to different topics in analysis including spectral theory, scattering theory, control theory, and some aspects in non linear equations, by the use of dispersive estimates and paraproduct techniques. The objective of our proposal is to develop new tools and applications in two directions : boundary value problems and connections between probability and semi-classical analysis. We expect to solve basic remaining open problems in the analysis of boundary problems, and to make contributions to develop new links between probability and analysis of partial differential equations. We will focus on four topics :<br/>- 1) Dispersive and Strichartz estimates for wave or Schrodinger equations in domains. Applications to the Cauchy problem for non linear waves in domains.<br/>- 2) Theoretical analysis of the optimal control operator in control theory.<br/>- 3) Analysis of Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm of Metropolis type via PDE's tools.<br/>- 4) Applications of probabilistic tools to the analysis of PDE. Topics 1) and 2) are strongly connected to progress in the analysis of boundary value problems.<br/>Topic 3) involves a generalization of the classical pseudo-differential calculus. Another exceptional property of this protein is its dual function, as we discovered for the first time in the ERC Advanced Grant BIOSILICA (Grant no. 268476): silicatein both (i) acts as an enzyme (biosilica formation) and (ii) exhibits structure-forming/guiding activity. Even more important with regard to the biomedical application of silicatein: the product of the enzymatic reaction, biosilica, is osteogenic and biocompatible and allows the formation of a moldable material the ideal basis for the potential application in bone healing, as we found. Moreover, we demonstrated that biosilica not only increases the expression of bone morphogenic protein 2 (BMP-2), but also modulates the ratio of expression of two proteins, osteoprotegerin (OPG) and RANKL, that are crucial in pathogenesis of osteoporosis. Hence, biosilica has potential in prophylaxis and therapy of osteoporosis, a major health threat worldwide. Measures to prevent the development of osteoporosis have become increasingly important due to the demographic development in many industrialized countries. Our idea arising from the ERC-funded project is to apply the silica-enzymes fused to a hydroxyapatite-binding protein tag for the formation of bioactive biosilica-based scaffold / nanocomposite materials for bone regeneration and repair in osteoporotic patients and patients with related bone diseases. The proposed project aims at bringing this idea to a pre-demonstration stage by conducting a proof of concept and verifying its innovation potential. The potential commercialization opportunities and the IPR position of this idea will be clarified.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 324564<br/> <b>Status</b>: Accepted<br/> <br/> <b>Total cost</b>: EUR 161 560<br/> <b>EU contribution</b>: EUR 149 366<br/> </div> <div class="box-right"> <p> <b>Programme acronym: </b> <br/> <a href="/fetch?CALLER=PROGLINK_NEWS_EN&QF_PGA=FP7-IDEAS-ERC">FP7-IDEAS-ERC</a> </p> <p> <b>Subprogramme area: </b> <br/>ERC-OA-2012-PoC</p> <p> <b>Contract type: </b> <br/>Support actions</p> </div> </div> <div class="openaire" id="openaire"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Publications</span> </div> <div class="content" id="oa_widget"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.openaire.eu/index.php?option=com_openaire&view=widget&layout=bootstrap&format=raw&ga=324564"/> </div> <div class="projcoord" id="coord"> <h2>Host Institution</h2> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">UNIVERSITAETSMEDIZIN DER JOHANNES GUTENBERG-UNIVERSITAET MAINZ</div> <div class="country">DEUTSCHLAND <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('coord');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Dr. Uta Veith<br/>Langenbeckstrasse 1, MAINZ, DEUTSCHLAND<br/>Tel: +49 6131 17 9717<br/>Fax: +49 6131 17 9669<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=00650070006f00400075006d002d006d00610069006e007a002e00640065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.um-mainz.de/" target="_blank">Website</a> <a href="JavaScript:openMap(106586);">See on map</a> </div> </div> <div class="participants"> <h2>Beneficiaries</h2> <div class="participant" id="partNaN"> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">UNIVERSITAETSMEDIZIN DER JOHANNES GUTENBERG-UNIVERSITAET MAINZ</div> <div class="country">DEUTSCHLAND <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('partNaN');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Dr. Uta Veith<br/>Langenbeckstrasse 1, MAINZ, DEUTSCHLAND<br/>Tel: +49 6131 17 9717<br/>Fax: +49 6131 17 9669<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=00650070006f00400075006d002d006d00610069006e007a002e00640065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.um-mainz.de/" target="_blank">Website</a> <a href="JavaScript:openMap(106586);">See on map</a> </div> </div> </div> <div id="toknowmore"> <h2>To know more</h2> <div class="content"> <a href="http://erc.europa.eu/" target="_blank">http://erc.europa.eu/</a> </div> </div> <div id="subjects"> <h2>Subjects</h2>SCI</div> <div id="recinfo"> <b>Record number</b>: 106586 / <b>Last updated on (QVD)</b>: 2012-12-17</div> <script type="text/JavaScript">SeeAlsoObj = {PGA: 'FP7-IDEAS-ERC',SIC: 'SCI',CCY: 'DE',oa_grant: '324564'};</script> </div>

Recently, we have identified tumour penetrating peptides (TPP) that trigger specific penetration of co-administered un-conjugated drugs deep into tumour and increase their therapeutic index. Current TPP target angiogenic tumour vessels and may not be suitable for targeting slow-growing tumours and invasive tumour cells. TPP are composed of functional modules (tumour recruitment motif, cryptic tissue penetrating C-end Rule element, and a protease cleavage site), which can be rearranged to yield peptides of novel specificities.<br/>Our goal is to develop TPP platform for delivery of co-administered drugs to the deadliest brain tumour glioblastoma (GBM). High-grade glioma is a target that is particularly evasive and well-suited for tissue penetrative drug delivery. We will develop glioma-specific TPP (gTPP) by combination of in vivo and ex vivo phage display of constrained peptide libraries on state-of-the-art glioma animal models. These gTPP will be able to penetrate gliomas (and potentially other tumours) independent of their angiogenic status, and to deliver drugs to infiltrating malignant cells far from the bulk glioma lesion. We will characterize, validate, and optimize the gTPP platform for enhanced glioma delivery of co-injected drugs. These studies will provide the preclinical data needed to advance the gTPP combination therapy of glioma to GLP toxicology and subsequent IND filing.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 281910<br/> <b>Status</b>: Execution<br/> <br/> <b>Total cost</b>: EUR 1 499 931<br/> <b>EU contribution</b>: EUR 1 499 931<br/> </div> <div class="box-right"> <p> <b>Programme acronym: </b> <br/> <a href="/fetch?CALLER=PROGLINK_NEWS_EN&QF_PGA=FP7-IDEAS-ERC">FP7-IDEAS-ERC</a> </p> <p> <b>Subprogramme area: </b> <br/>ERC-SG-LS7</p> <p> <b>Contract type: </b> <br/>ERC Starting Grant</p> </div> </div> <div class="openaire" id="openaire"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Publications</span> </div> <div class="content" id="oa_widget"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.openaire.eu/index.php?option=com_openaire&view=widget&layout=bootstrap&format=raw&ga=281910"/> </div> <div class="projinvest"> <h2>Principal Investigator</h2> <div class="main">Mr. Tambet Teesalu<br/>Tel: +372 742 6287<br/>Fax: +372 737 5508<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=00740061006d006200650074002e00740065006500730061006c007500400067006d00610069006c002e0063006f006d">Contact</a> <br/> </div> </div> <div class="projcoord" id="coord"> <h2>Host Institution</h2> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">TARTU ULIKOOL</div> <div class="country">EESTI <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('coord');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Ms. Kadri Raav<br/>ULIKOOLI 18, 000, TARTU, EESTI<br/>Tel: +372 737 5614<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=006b0061006400720069002e0072006100610076004000750074002e00650065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.ut.ee" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> <div class="participants"> <h2>Beneficiaries</h2> <div class="participant" id="partNaN"> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">TARTU ULIKOOL</div> <div class="country">EESTI <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('partNaN');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Ms. Kadri Raav<br/>ULIKOOLI 18, 000, TARTU, EESTI<br/>Tel: +372 737 5614<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=006b0061006400720069002e0072006100610076004000750074002e00650065">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.ut.ee" target="_blank">Website</a> </div> </div> </div> <div id="toknowmore"> <h2>To know more</h2> <div class="content"> <a href="http://erc.europa.eu/" target="_blank">http://erc.europa.eu/</a> </div> </div> <div id="subjects"> <h2>Subjects</h2>BIO - MED</div> <div id="recinfo"> <b>Record number</b>: 102001 / <b>Last updated on (QVD)</b>: 2012-12-17</div> <script type="text/JavaScript">SeeAlsoObj = {PGA: 'FP7-IDEAS-ERC',SIC: 'BIO,MED',CCY: 'EE',oa_grant: '281910'};</script> </div>

Understanding the physical processes that determine the rate at which matter accretes and energy is radiated in these discs is vital for unravelling the formation, evolution, and fate of almost every type of object in the Universe. Despite the fact that magnetic fields have been known to be crucial in accretion discs since the early 90s, the majority of astrophysical questions that depend on the details of how disc accretion proceeds are still being addressed using the standard accretion disc model (developed in the early 70s), where magnetic fields do not play an explicit role. This has prevented us from fully exploring the astrophysical consequences and observational signatures of realistic accretion disc models, leading to a profound disconnect between observations (usually interpreted with the standard paradigm) and modern accretion disc theory and numerical simulations (where magnetic turbulence is crucial). The goal of this proposal is to use several complementary approaches in order to finally move beyond the standard paradigm.<br/>This program has two main objectives: 1) Develop the theoretical framework to incorporate magnetic fields, and the ensuing turbulence, into self-consistent accretion disc models, and investigate their observational implications. 2) Investigate transport and radiative processes in collision-less disc regions, where non-thermal radiation originates, by employing a kinetic particle description of the plasma. In order to achieve these goals, we will use, and build upon, state-of-the-art magnetohydrodynamic and particle-in-cell codes in conjunction with theoretical modelling. This framework will make it possible to address fundamental questions on stellar and planet formation, binary systems with a compact object, and supermassive black hole feedback in a way that has no counterpart within the standard paradigm.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="projdet"> <h2>Project details</h2> <div class="box-left"> <b>Project reference</b>: 306614<br/> <b>Status</b>: Accepted<br/> <br/> <b>Total cost</b>: EUR 1 793 697<br/> <b>EU contribution</b>: EUR 1 793 697<br/> </div> <div class="box-right"> <p> <b>Programme acronym: </b> <br/> <a href="/fetch?CALLER=PROGLINK_NEWS_EN&QF_PGA=FP7-IDEAS-ERC">FP7-IDEAS-ERC</a> </p> <p> <b>Subprogramme area: </b> <br/>ERC-SG-PE9</p> <p> <b>Contract type: </b> <br/>ERC Starting Grant</p> </div> </div> <div class="openaire" id="openaire"> <div class="label"> <span class="title">Publications</span> </div> <div class="content" id="oa_widget"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.openaire.eu/index.php?option=com_openaire&view=widget&layout=bootstrap&format=raw&ga=306614"/> </div> <div class="projinvest"> <h2>Principal Investigator</h2> <div class="main">Dr. Martin Elias Pessah<br/>Tel: +45 35 32 53 12<br/>Fax: +45 35 32 50 16<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=006d0070006500730073006100680040006e00620069002e0064006b">Contact</a> <br/> </div> </div> <div class="projcoord" id="coord"> <h2>Host Institution</h2> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">KOBENHAVNS UNIVERSITET</div> <div class="country">DANMARK <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('coord');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Mr. Ivan Kristoffersen<br/>NORREGADE 10, KØBENHAVN, DANMARK<br/>Tel: +45 35322810<br/>Fax: +45 35324612<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0050006f00700065004000610064006d002e006b0075002e0064006b">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.ku.dk" target="_blank">Website</a> <a href="JavaScript:openMap(106530);">See on map</a> </div> </div> <div class="participants"> <h2>Beneficiaries</h2> <div class="participant" id="partNaN"> <!-- from ERC --> <div class="main"> <div class="name">KOBENHAVNS UNIVERSITET</div> <div class="country">DANMARK <a class="see-more" href="JavaScript:tglInfo('partNaN');"> <span>(+)</span> </a> </div> </div> <div class="optional item-content">Administrative contact: Mr. Ivan Kristoffersen<br/>NORREGADE 10, KØBENHAVN, DANMARK<br/>Tel: +45 35322810<br/>Fax: +45 35324612<br/>Email: <a href="http://cordis.europa.eu/MailAnon/index.cfm?fuseaction=Hiding.PostalForm&address=0050006f00700065004000610064006d002e006b0075002e0064006b">Contact</a> <br/> <a href="http://www.ku.dk" target="_blank">Website</a> <a href="JavaScript:openMap(106530);">See on map</a> </div> </div> </div> <div id="toknowmore"> <h2>To know more</h2> <div class="content"> <a href="http://erc.europa.eu/" target="_blank">http://erc.europa.eu/</a> </div> </div> <div id="subjects"> <h2>Subjects</h2>SCI</div> <div id="recinfo"> <b>Record number</b>: 106530 / <b>Last updated on (QVD)</b>: 2012-12-17</div> <script type="text/JavaScript">SeeAlsoObj = {PGA: 'FP7-IDEAS-ERC',SIC: 'SCI',CCY: 'DK',oa_grant: '306614'};</script> </div>
